Brescia

Surrounded by nature's greenery, Brescia is a city with an important artistic, cultural and archaeological heritage. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, thanks to the presence of places and buildings of great beauty, such as the monumental area of the Roman Forum, an archaeological site in which there are some of the best preserved buildings from the Roman era in northern Italy, relating to the history of the old "Brixia" (Brixia is the Roman name for Brescia). The Basilica of San Salvatore, built in 753, and the churches of Santa Maria in Solario and Santa Giulia are also of great importance. Among the main attractions, the sumptuous Piazza della Loggia and the medieval Castle near the historic center, the old Cathedral and the Museum of Santa Giulia, set up in a monastic complex of Lombard origin, inside of which there are numerous Celtic finds, portraits and Roman bronzes, mosaics and frescoes. In the immediate vicinity of the city are three beautiful lakes (Garda, Iseo, Idro) and the lush hills of Franciacorta, famous for the production of sparkling wine.
