Fasano

Fasano, in the province of Brindisi, was founded in the 1900s as a village inhabited mainly by the Benedictines of the monastery of Santo Stefano. The town developed thanks to the Knights of Malta who settled in Fasano and built the Mother Church and the palace of the Knights of Malta which today, together with the University building dating back to the 16th century, adorns Piazza Ciala. Today the economy of Fasano is more closely linked to tourism, and the sea is the protagonist of this trend ; the clear waters have been awarded the 4 Sails of Legambiente several times and also the Blue Flag that rewards the best seaside resorts. A few kilometers from the city center, then, it is possible to visit the Selva di Fasano where you can enjoy splendid views typical of the Mediterranean scrub, the archaeological excavations of Egnazia and the Zoosafari Fasanolandia, among the most famous attractions in the area. The farms are also worth a visit, many of which have been transformed into welcoming and luxurious resorts.
