A perfect mix of history and art, gastronomy and tradition. Martina Franca is one of the favorite destinations for tourists who want to discover the Itria Valley, famous for its elegant Baroque architecture, wines and capocollo, a particularly tasty salami of purely local production. The sumptuous Baroque style of Palazzo Ducale (in Rococo style and rich in frescoes) summarizes various architectural features typical of the Renaissance, combined with decorative Baroque elements, made by skilled local stonecutters, not far from the typical decorations of Salento art. Also not to be missed are the other stately palaces, significant from an artistic and historical point of view: Palazzo Martucci, Palazzo dell’University, Palazzo Motolese, Palazzo Maggi and Palazzo Ancona. There are three museums, that of the Pianelle wood, at the Doge's Palace (devoted to the disclosure of the specificities of flora and fauna), the Museum of Philip I of Anjou (with contemporary art exhibitions) and the MuBa (Museum of the Basilica of San Martino), which houses collections of liturgical and historical furnishings. All that remains is to end your walk with the belvedere of the former Augustinian Convent, from whose top it is possible to look at and dominate the entire historic center.
