Padova

The 3,000 years of history have bequeathed to Padua, the capital of the Veneto province, numerous monuments of historical and artistic value such as the millenary arcades and Prato della Valle, the largest square in the city. The past of Padua, however, cannot ignore the spirituality that reigns in its churches, including all the basilicas of St. Antonio and St. Giustina and the Cathedral with its Romanesque Baptistery. Padua is also the city of science that develops between the ancient walls of the university building of the Palazzo del Bo and along the avenues of the first university botanical garden in Europe. The Palazzo della Ragione (the ancient seat of the city courts) and the Loggia dei Carraresi, evidence of the ancient splendor of the Lordship of the Carraresi, the Scrovegni Chapel with the valuable cycle of frescoes by Giotto, the sculptures by Donatello or the modern lines of the Libeskind monument are to be visited. The city as it is today can be experienced during a visit to Padua’s city markets in Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza della Frutta, in the squares, inside the restaurants, in the old taverns, among the tables of historic coffee bars and in the places where the ritual of the aperitif is celebrated.
