Udine
Charm and elegance in the squares of Udine, located in the region of Friuli Venezia Giulia and only 20 km away from the border with Slovenia. Its historic town center is famous for its characteristic squares, such as Piazza della Libertà, which has been defined "the most beautiful square on the mainland of the Veneto region", surrounded by as many structures of historical and architectural interest, such as the Lionello loggia, with its elegant marbles in Gothic-Venetian style. Continuing on in the nearby streets you arrive at the symbolic Piazza delle Erbe, also known as Piazza San Giacomo, probably the most beautiful in Udine. The 16th-century castle dominates the old city from the top of a hill ; fans of industrial architecture, on the other hand, will love the old steel mills and disused factories where beer was produced. The museums are also places to be visited: the Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art with works by Amedeo Modigliani, Lucio Fontana, Giorgio Morandi and others ; the Gallerie del Progetto, with architecture and design archives and the Civic Museums of Ancient History and Art.
