Modena

Located in the center of Emilia Romagna, Modena has a beautiful historic city center full of elegant and sumptuous buildings (such as the Doge's Palace), with very rich churches and extraordinary museums. The Estiense Gallery, for example, houses one of the most important Italian public collections, the result of a real treasure trove brought there by the Dukes of Este, with works by Tintoretto, Paolo Veronese, Guido Reni and Correggio, but above all with the famous portraits of Francesco d'Este, including the marble bust by Niccolò Bernini and the canvas by Diego Velázquez. The Romanesque Cathedral, the Piazza Grande and the Ghirlandina Tower (symbol of the city) have contributed to making the city a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lovers of good food have more than one reason to stop here: Modena is the home of balsamic vinegar, Parmigiano Reggiano, Lambrusco, tortellini and zampone. Different personalities are linked to the place, from Enzo Ferrari to Luciano Pavarotti: there are two very popular museums each dedicated to one of these figures.
